we are bilingual lah, you dunno 百灵果 meh, means we dun dink twice before we speak do you in eider chinese or english. you dalk in what language we oso dalk in what language, it's all induition, all in here lah (points to head).
All joking aside, they do prefer English, because most people don't have the same level of command in Chinese as in English, especially for occasions beyond ordering food in hawker centers.
当然新加坡当地出生的true blue singaporean才占整个人口的60+%,其他都是永居或者在这里居住的流动人口。而其中的很大一部分是来新工作的马来西亚华人,如果一个公司大部分是马来西亚华人的话,大家都说中文也是没什么奇怪的。我的实习的第二家客户,还有我的第二个senior,都是马来西亚人,全程华语交流。第一天去不知道情况的我就一直用英语,结果客户问我同事,那个新来的小姑娘不会讲华语呀?。。。我不会讲才怪!哈哈
